Station Sites

The Oklahoma City Micronet consists of 4 Oklahoma Mesonet sites and 36 traffic signal sites. For more information about the Oklahoma Mesonet, please click here.

The traffic signal stations are a critical component of the Oklahoma City Micronet. They were designed to function with existing infrastructure across Oklahoma City and to capture atmospheric conditions throughout the metropolitan area. Because the impact of buildings on atmospheric conditions is complex, an increased density of traffic signal sites were installed in and around the downtown area with a decreased density from the central business district to surrounding rural areas. On average, the distance between stations is approximately 2 miles.

Special attention was also given to installing sites near important community centers or landmarks in Oklahoma City. Such locations include schools, the Oklahoma City airport, Wiley Post Airport, Tinker Air Force Base, the Bricktown district, the Ford Center, the Oklahoma City Health Sciences Campus, Quail Springs Mall, and Penn Square Mall. Many other sites were installed within residential areas.
